SSP stands for Special Service Package — and in terms of Ford Mustangs it refers to the lightweight police car package for the Fox Body Mustang that produced by Ford between 1982 and 1993.
Ford designed the car to provide police departments with a speedy and clandestine option to the standard unmarked Crown Vic which everyone suspected was a police car. One of the taglines used by Ford at the time was “This Ford chases Porsches for a living.”
